Could Your Oral Health Improve from Meditation?

Posted on 9/21/2021 by Parkway Dentistry at Langtree
Could Your Oral Health Improve from Meditation?Meditation is one of the oldest forms of self-care that we know of. Ancient people used to use meditation to help find their inner peace, and they were onto something when they did it. Meditation has a host of benefits for your body, but not many people know that it is also very beneficial for your oral health as well.

Meditation and Oral Health

Stress is one of the biggest factors of oral discomfort and problems. Between issues like clenching your teeth together, grinding them, chewing on them, or clacking them together harshly, there are a lot of ways that stress can manifest itself in your oral behavior and health. Some of these are issues that occur once we are asleep or are unconscious, making their correction harder until there is already a significant amount of damage-causing discomfort.

Meditation works by centering the mind and pushing away the influences which are causing the stress. It can help to lower blood pressure, retain a relaxed mood and help to prioritize. It is known that meditating for 20 minutes a day dramatically reduces stress levels, which means that it will also improve your dental health. But if you do not have enough time for a 20-minute session with your guru, you can find meditation in other ways. Some people find that their elevator ride from the bottom floor to their work floor is a good time for some deep breathing and focusing. Others have found that what works for them is sitting in their car quietly during their lunch break.
